FLORENCE BAKER BUGG
Physical Education Instructor, 1930-62

Florence Bugg was a native of Corning, Iowa, and competed in basketball and track at Simpson College from 1913 to 1917. She received her masters degree from Vanderbilt and did additional graduate work at San Francisco State and Columbia. She came to Springfield in 1930 to teach physical education at Missouri State University and Greenwood. She organized the Girl’s Athletic Association at GHS and the Physical Education Majors Club and the Orchesis Dance Club in 1936 and Delta Psi Kappa, forerunner of the current physical education honorary society, in 1937. She assisted in the College play days and was also involved in the formation of the first Greek Sorority at MSU.
