BRUCE HOLLOWELL
Golf, 1962-66
Inducted February 23, 1985

Springfield native Bruce Hollowell was a member of the Bear golf team during one of the brightest eras in the history of the sport at Missouri State; a time in which MSU hosted the first six NCAA Division II regional golf championships for the Midwest Region and also served as the host for the first three NCAA Division II national championships in golf in 1963, 1964 and 1965. The Bears of Coach Andy McDonald were equal to the occasion in those years, as a dominant team both regionally and nationally, and Hollowell was a key to those accomplishments as he was a regular for the Bruins in 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1966. Missouri State captured MIAA championships each of Hollowell's first three seasons and followed those up with regional championships each year. The 1963 MSU team of Hollowell, Larry Gooch, Larry Pegg, Dick Baxter, Jim Wheeler and Bill Lucas recorded an 11-stroke margin of victory for the first Division II golf team ever awarded. MSU finished fourth in the nation in 1964. The Bears were second in the MIAA meet in 1966 with Hollowell claiming conference individual medalist honors with a two-round total of 140 as a senior.
