Mo State Volleyball Tops NSU in Straight Sets

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State picked up its second consecutive home sweep on Friday evening, taking down Northwestern State by set scores of 25-22, 25-22, 25-18 on night two of the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Hammons Student Center.
The Bears (3-2) hit an efficient .327 and had single-digit errors for the second straight night, with five players collecting six or more kills. Three of those – Chloe Judd, Halle Kerkman and Hannah Redrow - hit .583 or better, while Rilynn Finley led MSU with 10 winners on .320 hitting.
On the defensive side, Brooke Elsinger had 20 digs to lead all players. Hannah Gardner and Halle Rillie tallied 19 assists each, and Kya Johnson served two aces. The Bears led 43-41 in kills, 46-45 in digs, 5-4 in aces and 5-3 in blocks.
Judd and Finley had four kills and two blocks each in a narrow first set win, and Judd's ace early in the second made it 10-4 in favor of the Bears. The Demons served for the tie twice at 22-21 and 23-22 but never pulled even as the Bears took the 2-0 lead.
Mo State never trailed in the third and pulled away from an 8-8 tie, piling up 18 kills on .351 in the final period, including five from Kerkman.
The Bears close the weekend with Indiana State at 3 p.m. Saturday. Tickets for home games can be purchased here, and Missouri State students are admitted free of charge.
