LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Missouri State dropped the second match of its weekend volleyball series at New Mexico State Saturday by a 3-1 final at the Pan American Center.
Despite the loss, the Bears (19-7, 10-4 Conference USA) remain in second place in the league standings entering the final weekend of play. Middle Tennessee and Sam Houston are both 8-6 in CUSA play and sit tied for third, meaning Mo State needs one win in its Nov. 12-13 home series with Jacksonville State to lock up the No. 2 seed in the Nov. 20-22 conference tournament.
The Aggies (14-13, 7-7), who won Saturday's contest by set scores of 25-16, 25-15, 23-25, 25-17, boasted a 74.3 side out percentage, controlling things from that perspective in addition to holding a .353-.209 advantage in hitting percentage.
New Mexico State hit .412 with 18 kills in the first set, then committed seven fewer errors than Mo State in the second to take a 2-0 lead.
The Bears hit .314 in the third set to extend the match, with Lexi Weinberg providing five of her 14 kills in the period.
