Marion Donald was the premier distance-running standout of the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association in the late 1930's, lettering in track for the Bears four years between 1935 and 1939. A native of Lebanon, he set numerous records in his outstanding career and was one of the first Bears ever to compete and place in the national AAU track championships. Running for Coach Collins, Donald placed first in the MIAA championship meet in the mile run in 1935. As the team co-captain in 1938, he broke the league indoor marks in the mile and two mile runs and captured the outdoor championships in the half mile, mile and two mile. In 1939 in the indoor event, he again won the mile and two-mile and shared the crown in the half mile and then came back to win the two-mile title in the outdoor meet. Donald capped his career at MSU with a second-place finish in the AAU national meet in the 5000-meter run. During his last three years he ran for MSU, the Bears finished second in each of the league meets in the team standings.
