Erica Norgren was a four-time all-Missouri Valley Conference freestyle sprinter in her Bears' career from 2002 to 2006. She won more than a dozen MVC league titles as she captured the 200-yard freestyle event twice, the 100-yard freestyle once and swam on 10 winning freestyle relay teams at conference championship meets over her four seasons. A product of Springfield Glendale High where she won all-state honors and swam on four straight unbeaten conference title teams, Norgren won two state titles while at Glendale and set one state record. When she came to the Missouri State program, Norgren swam on four straight MVC conference championship teams. The first place Bears of MSU coach Jack Steck finished ahead of league meet host and runner -up Southern Illinois by margins of 167 points in 2003, 126.5 points in 2004, 64 points in 2005 and 51 points in 2006. Norgren was involved in MSU school records in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle and multiple relay events and graduated among the Bears' all-time top five times in six different individual and relay events. She shared in two relay event times which broke Valley marks, shares one Hammons Student Center pool record, and was also an academic all-conference selection in the Valley. Steck's Bears fashioned winning dual meet marks all four of Norgren's seasons, and the team's four-year mark in those campaigns was 33-22. After her 2006 MSU graduation, Norgren enlisted in the United States Air Force where she became a heavy equipment mechanic. She had overseas deployments in Iraq/Kuwait in 2010 and Afghanistan in 2011-2012 and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. She now works in investment accounting for the State Street Corporation in Kansas City, Mo.
