PAT HOGAN
Football and Baseball, 1963-66
Inducted February 18, 1989

Pat Hogan was a gridiron mainstay at MSU from 1963 to 1966 in a career which bridged the gap between the coaching tenures of Orville Pottenger and Jim Mentis. Hogan came to MSU from Independence, played his first two seasons for Pottenger and his last two for Mentis, and was a member of an undefeated MIAA championship team as both a freshman and a senior. The four-year letterman was the Bruins’ regular punter throughout his career and his average of over 40 yards a kick each year are four of only five such years in Bruin grid history. His career average of 41.9 yards and his single season best mark of 45.7 per kick in 1965 are still Bruin records. He totaled 7,950 yards on 190 punts and his 79-yarder against Southern Illinois in 1965 is the best punt in Bruin history. Hogan also saw action at fullback, leading the Bears in rushing with 696 yards as a junior, and he was the team’s top scorer as a junior and senior, doubling as the placekicker in addition to his punting. Hogan finished his four grid seasons at MSU with 1,477 yards on 351 carries and scored 167 points on 17 touchdowns and 65 extra points. His career point total is still the sixth best in school history. He was an MIAA all-conference selection at fullback as a junior. Hogan also lettered for the baseball Bears of Coach Bill Rowe in 1965 and 1966 in the second and third years of the Bruin diamond program. He was a two-year regular for the Bears in rightfield and hit .323 as a senior.
