Broadcaster / Sports Anchor, 1968-present
DON PAYTON AWARD
A local media icon, broadcaster and sports anchor, Ned Reynolds is the recipient of this year's Don Payton Award. In addition to his decades covering Missouri State teams as sports director at KY3-TV, Reynolds served on the radio and television broadcast teams for Bears basketball, football and baseball games dating back to 1968. He has been the host of various Bears and Lady Bears coaches shows over the years and was instrumental in the establishment of the Missouri Valley Conference television network in the 1990s.
A native of Haddonfield, N.J., just outside Philadelphia, Reynolds graduated from Temple University in 1962. He would serve the next six years in the U.S. Navy, and ultimately found his way to the Ozarks in 1968. He spent nearly five decades as sports director at KY3 TV until his retirement in December 2014. Since then, he has remained active in the local media scene, serving as a morning radio host and continuing his broadcasting passion with radio and TV assignments for Missouri State, Drury and the Springfield Cardinals.
Reynolds was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 and was named as a Missouri Sports Legend in 2015.Â
