RICK IVERSON
Swimming, 1971-75
Inducted February 25, 1995

Rick Iverson was a four-year letterman for the swimming Bears of coach Dale Williams between 1971-72 and 1974-75 and was one of the Missouri State stalwarts during the brightest era in the early history of MSU swimming. Swimming primarily the backstroke and individual medley, St. Louis native Iverson was a key member of MSU teams which won MIAA championships his first two seasons and finished a close second to Missouri-Rolla when he was a junior and senior. Practicing and competing in the Springfield YMCA pool in the years before MSU had an on-campus swimming facility, Iverson was the league champion in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM and swam on the winning 400 yard medley relay team as both a freshman and as a sophomore. He won the 200-yard IM and was on the winning medley relay team in the MIAA meet as a junior, and captured the 200-yard backstroke and swam on the winning medley relay team in 1975 in conference action. Iverson and the MSU medley relay team advanced to the NCAA Division II meet in Long Beach, Calif., in 1974. Iverson held or shared school records in all of his specialties throughout his career, and held a pair of conference records as well. He was named the top MSU freshman swimmer in 1971-72, and was a co-captain and gained selection as the Bears’ Most Valuable Swimmer in 1974-75. Iverson was a member of MSU teams which won 37-50 dual meets during his four seasons with the Bears.
