AMES, Iowa - Missouri State women's soccer kept Iowa State off the board for more than 63 minutes Thursday evening, but a pair of second-half goals lifted the Cyclones to a 2-0 victory at the Cyclone Sports Complex. The Bears moved to 2-3-1, while Iowa State improved to 4-2-1.
Iowa State broke through at 63:37 when Erin Hopewell set up Alaina Villa for the opening goal. The Cyclones added an insurance tally at 86:44 when Megan Walters found the net to make it 2-0.
The Missouri State defensive unit kept the match level throughout the opening half despite Iowa State generating five corner kicks. Missouri State held an 8-7 edge in shots at the break, with both teams putting two shots on goal.
The Bears nearly grabbed the lead in the eighth minute when Maggie O'Keefe struck the crossbar. Brooke Cattoor forced a save just over two minutes later, while Thea Dimitroff put another attempt on frame just before halftime.
Iowa State increased the pressure after halftime, outshooting Missouri State 13-4 over the final 45 minutes. Mo State goal keeper Kate Lewis finished with five saves, while the Cyclones ended the match with a 20-12 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal.
The Bears continue their three-match road swing Sunday at Iowa. Kickoff for that match has been moved up to Noon.
