CHUCK FREDERKING
Swimming, 1973-77
Inducted February 24, 1996

Chuck Frederking was a standout performer throughout his career in the Missouri State swimming program, lettering four years in a row from 1974 through 1977 for the Bears of Coach Dale Williams. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, where he was a product of Normandy High School, Frederking was the Bears' top backstroker throughout much of his MSU career. Missouri State posted a four-year dual meet record of 27-16 while Frederking was with the Bears, and the Bruins finished as the MIAA runner-up his first three seasons before slipping to third place in the league meet in 1977. Frederking was named the Bears' top freshman his first year and was voted the Bears' Most Valuable Swimmer each of his last two seasons. In addition, he served as a Bruin captain as a senior as the MSU swimming program got its own home pool for the first time with the completion of Hammons Student Center. Frederking won the 100-yard backstroke in the MIAA championship meet as a sophomore and junior and won the league 200-yard backstroke races when he was a junior and senior. He was selected for the league sportsmanship award at the MIAA meet his senior year. Frederking held the MSU school records in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke races at the time he graduated in 1977 and also shared the school mark in the 400-yard medley relay.
