Mike Williams was a member of the MSU Missouri Valley Conference championship and NCAA tournament teams in both 1997 and 1999, with the 1999 club the first unbeaten team in program history. Playing for the Bears of coach Jon Leamy, Williams led the Bears in goals and scoring three seasons each and his 67 career points are tied for fourth best all-time in the MSU record book, as are his 26 goals and 9 game-winners. A native St. Louisan where he was a first team all-state selection, Williams played in 78 Bears' career matches with 55 starts in  four seasons. He recorded a three-goal hat trick against Northern Illinois on Sept. 9, 1999. He was an all-MVC second team selection in 1997 while collecting an honorable mention pick from the league in 1998. Williams was selected to the All-Region Scholar first team in 1999 after gaining a spot on the 1998 MVC Scholar-Athlete first team. The Bears were ranked in the top 25 in the coaches' poll all four years Williams played, and he was a second round draft choice of the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League.
