KENT STRINGER
Football, 1972-75
Inducted February 10, 1990

Native Springfieldian Kent Stringer was the Bears' starting quarterback for his last three football seasons in 1973, 1974 and 1975, and is one of only two MSU athletes ever to gain academic All-American recognition three times. Stringer was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America academic All-American first team in 1973 and 1975 and the second team honor unit in 1974. On the playing field, Stringer was the MIAA all-conference second team quarterback as a sophomore and junior and was an MSU to third-place ties in the MIAA all three of his seasons as a starter, with MSU posting an overall 7-3 record in 1974 and a 6-4-1 mark in 1975. Stringer owned most of the Bears' career passing marks at the time he graduated, concluding his Bruin career with 3,138 yards and 20 touchdowns passing on 205 completions in 447 attempts. He passed for 1297 yards his junior year and was over a thousand yards as a senior. He also led the club in total offense all three seasons at MSU, and rushed for nearly 400 yards and eight touchdowns as a ball carrier. Other records he set for the Bears included completing at least one pass in 28 consecutive games, throwing a touchdown pass in seven games in a row, and completing 10 passes in a row for the Bears in the 1974 Homecoming win over Central Missouri.
