BILL STEWART
Football, Basketball and Golf, 1939-41
Inducted September 27, 1980

Bill Stewart was a three-sport letterman at Missouri State, playing football from 1938 to 1941 under Coach Howard Blair and basketball from 1938 to 1942 under Andy McDonald. He was a member of the undefeated 1940 football team as the Bears of that era rolled up a winning streak of 18 games, a school record which still stands. It was in golf, however, that Springfieldian Stewart gained his greatest athletic success. As a sophomore in 1939, he was the runnerup to the individual medalist in the MIAA golf championship and then teamed with Gene Webb in 1940 and 1941 to bring the Bears back-to back conference golf championships, also under Coach McDonald.
