CHEASA GIBSON
Track and Field 2001-04
Inducted 2013
Cheasa Gibson was an All-Missouri Valley Conference selection four times as the league’s premier sprinter and jumper during her time at Missouri State for the Bears of coach Ron Boyce, and she was as versatile as she was valuable. A native of Bloomington, Ill., Gibson won the MVC 400-meter dash and finished first or second in the 200-meter dash in both the league indoor meets and the outdoor events four times each. She also placed in the league’s top five twice in the long jump. She was a provisional qualifier to the NCAA Division I championship in the 1,600-meter relay as a freshman in 2001. In 2001, she was the MVC indoor and outdoor Most Valuable Track Athlete and was the league meet’s overall most valuable winner outdoors. She repeated the outdoor and overall most valuable awards in 2002 and 2004. Gibson accounted for 25 of the Bears' team points in the conference outdoor championship meet in 2004. Gibson's individual event prowess was matched by her work on relay teams as she helped Missouri State to multiple top finishes in the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter event. Gibson finished in 15th place in the 400-meter run in both the NCAA indoor and outdoor championship meets her senior campaign. Gibson's performances in the conference championship meets helped MSU to a third place finish in 2001, a runner-up spot in 2002 and conference titles in both 2003 and 2004 in the MVC indoor events. Outdoors, Coach Boyce's Bears collected the league championship each of Gibson's first three MSU seasons before getting an MVC runner-up spot behind Wichita State in 2004. Gibson capped her four years at MSU with selection to the 2004 Missouri State Outstanding Female Athlete Award. Gibson currently works as a unit director at a Boys' and Girls' Club in Bay City, Texas.
