ERWIN BUSIEK
Tennis, 1948-50
Inducted September 27, 1980

From the time of its addition as an MIAA sport in 1926, tennis proved to be a successful venture for MSU athletes and one of the most notable performers the Bears had in that sport was Erwin Busiek. A native Springfieldian, Busiek was a letterman for the University of Kansas as a freshman and transferred to MSU in 1947-48. Playing for Coach Dolph Crews his first year and Gerald Perry his last two, Busiek won three straight MIAA singles titles and teamed to win doubles championships in the conference with Robert Martin in 1948, William O’Neill in 1949 and Jack Ellis in 1950.
