GEORGE SAMPLE
Football, 1959-62
Inducted September 27, 1980

George Sample, a native of Springfield, was a four-year letterman as a hard-running fullback for Missouri State from 1959 through 1962, playing two years each for Aldo Sebben and Orville Pottenger on the Bruin gridiron. A workhorse on offense, he averaged over 12 carries a game each of his last three years and rushed for over 600 yards as both a junior and senior to gain all-conference laurels twice. He was a Missouri State co-captain his senior year and helped the Bears to a third-place finish in the MIAA. The leading MSU rusher three seasons in a row, he was also the top Bears scorer two seasons and wound up his career with 1715 career rushing yards and a total of 90 points on 15 touchdowns.
