SCOTT LOWERY
Wrestling, 1976-81
Inducted February 19, 1994

Scott Lowery was a four-year standout for the wrestling Bears of Coach Mike McCarty from 1976 to 1981. Lowery was the Missouri State team leader in match victories and team points each of his four full seasons with the Bears. A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lowery competed primarily in the 158 and 167-pound weight classes for Missouri State. Lowery was the MSU Most Valuable Wrestler as a freshman, sophomore and junior, and served as a team captain his senior season as the Bears won MSU's only MIAA championship in what was the Bears' final year in that conference. Lowery had a 17-8 record as a freshman and won the 158-pound weight class in the MIAA meet. His sophomore season, Lowery set new MSU marks with 28 wins and 93 team points and finished third in the MIAA. As a junior, he raised the MSU season standards once again with a 41-10 record and 170 team points. Lowery was third in the MIAA and finished sixth in the NCAA Division II meet to become the Bears' third wrestling All-American. As a senior in 1980-81, Lowery led MSU in wins and points again on the MIAA title team with a 24-10 mark and 106 team points, and won the MIAA title at 158 pounds. Lowery's MSU career numbers included a 118-38-1 match record with 466.5 team points, 23 pins, and 157 takedowns. His totals for match wins and team points are still MSU records while he ranks fourth in pins, fifth in takedowns and fifth in match winning percentage.
