CLYDE JAMES
Football and Basketball, 1920-24
Inducted October 28, 1978

Another well-known early-day Missouri State athlete was Clyde "Chief" James, a football letterman in 1922 for the unbeaten grid Bears, and a basketball award winner four years in a row from 1922 through 1925. A native of Seneca, Missouri, he worked his way from a job as a substitute to the team’s high point man and helped the Bruins to a 13-1 record in 1924 in what is the best single season percentage ever recorded by a Missouri State cage team. He was the Bruin captain that year and was named to the all-state team as a forward. James was inducted in 1977 into the Indian Athletic Hall of Fame at Lawrence, Kansas.
