Earned All-MVC first team distinction…Clinched bronze in 100 back and helped team to a silver medal in the 400 medley relay at MVC Championships (February 19-22)...Produced two top-five efforts, including runner-up in the 200 back, at Indiana State Invitational (October 19-20)…Capped a 1-2-3 Bears’ finish in 200 back versus SIU (November 9)…Recorded first career victory in 100 back in home finale versus Evansville (January 11)…Followed it up with another 100 back title at Drury (January 20).
Background
An Olympic trials qualifier and national finalist, Southward garnered many honors that include the 100 backstroke British junior champion, midland district champion in the 200 backstroke, and British national silver medalist in the 100 backstroke. Placed in the top-five of the Manchester International and Stockport Open meets. She was named team captain at the Shropshire national inter-counties, and swam a 2:10 in the 200 backstroke in back-to-back years.
