Henry Captures Two Top-Two Finishes at Rock Chalk Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Calandra Henry added two top-two finishes to her season's sum here Saturday while several other Missouri State track and field members earned top three finishes of their own at the Rock Chalk Classic. 

In the 200-meter dash, Henry captured the event title racing a lifetime best of 23.59 seconds while eclipsing her former top time of 24.69. The senior sprinter didn't stop there and finished second in the 100-meter dash as well with a time of 11.58 seconds, narrowly missing her personal best (11.50). The top finishes mark the fifth and sixth time Henry has finished in the top-three in individual events during the outdoor season. Nakaja Weaver and Felicity Watkins also competed in the 100-meter Saturday, finishing in 10th (12:48) and 12th (12:58) place, respectively.  

In the long jump, Brooke Jenkins captured her second runner-up finish in as many weeks, finishing second with a distance of 5.98 meters. The mark beats her former lifetime best in the event accomplished in 2021. 

Cheyenne White was another Bear to earn a top-three finish as she continued her strong senior campaign in the javelin throw Saturday, throwing to a lifetime best of 44.53 meters. The mark finished third among the field of 26. Reagan Reedy finished ninth in the event with a heave of 39.35. 

"Calandra, Brooke, and Cheyenne were tremendous today," said head coach Jordan Fife. "It's always encouraging to see things clicking for athletes at this stage of the season. We made some good progress in some other areas and overall had a solid day."

In the 800-meter run, Claudrice McKoy gave an impressive, season-best performance of her own, finishing in third place with a time of 2:15.87. Finishing in 18th place, Katie Griffin was one second shy of her lifetime best in the 800m, clocking a time of 2:26.93. 

Manuela Ngo Tonye Nyemeck led the Bears in the 400-meter at the invitational, earning a top-15 finish while racing a time of 58.49. Ending the race in 17th place, Victory Ifah accomplished a lifetime best in the event with a time of 59.32 seconds.  

Several Bears wrapped up MSU's distance efforts completing the 5,000-meter run with Shelby Palmer leading the way finishing eighth (18:19.04). Finishing in 16th, 17th and 21st place, respectively, Natalie Clayton, Grace Buschling and Mihane Nambara also competed in the event with times of 19:13.63, 19:40.00 and 20:22.52. 

Margo Nea and Adrien Martens competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the invitational, finishing in fourth and fifth place, respectively, with times of 11:26.81 and 12:12.82. 

Competing in the short hurdles for the Bears, DaeLin Switzer led the way for MSU with a time of 14.92 seconds, narrowly missing her top time. In the 400-meter hurdles, Meghan Halstead finished fifth with a personal best (1:02.66). 

Competing in the high jump, Switzer and Rachel Lacey finished in fifth and sixth place, both reaching heights of 1.60 meters. 

The Bears' 4x100-meter relay team of Charity Obazughanmwen, Henry, Weaver and Watkins also turned out a solid performance in the nine-team field, finishing in fourth place with a time of 46.79 seconds. 

MSU will wrap up its regular-season outdoor slate next weekend when the Bears return to the University of Arkansas to compete in the Arkansas Twilight. The meet will be held at John McDonnell Field on Friday, May 5.
