SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Missouri State women's track and field turned in a strong performance Friday at the Mo State Invitational, posting multiple event victories, facility records and personal-best marks at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
"It was an amazing afternoon. The energy was great, and the team responded well to the opportunity to run at home," said head coach
Jordan Fife. "The support was phenomenal and we appreciate everyone who came out. We had some really big performances today and set us up really well for the end of the season."
The Bears were led by a pair of facility records, as
Ella Cronhardt won the 800-meter run in 2:10.70 and Missouri State's 4x100-meter relay team of
Kayleigh Jenkins,
Delaney Weimer,
Claire Farrell and
Olivia Rogers crossed first in 45.03. Missouri State also added victories in the 400-meter hurdles, 1,500-meter run, 3,000-meter run, triple jump and 4x400-meter relay.
Missouri State opened the day with a strong showing in the relays, as the 4x100-meter team of
Kayleigh Jenkins,
Delaney Weimer,
Claire Farrell and
Olivia Rogers won the event in a facility-record 45.03. The Bears also claimed second with a team of
Shackera Douglas,
Rakiya Lang,
Brianna Howard and
Alyssa Ball in 45.16.
In the 1,500-meter run,
Ella Rew led a 1-2 finish for Missouri State with a winning time of 4:44.89.
Faith Fotiades followed in second in 4:46.07, while
Emilee Brusselers placed third and
Kaitlyn Hatley finished eighth.
Cheria Galbreath paced the Bears in the hurdles, placing fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best 14.41.
Sadie McCulloh added a seventh-place finish in 15.02, while
Bessie Swoboda recorded a personal-best 15.53.
Whitney Farrington turned in a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.95, and
Raegan Foster followed in fourth in 57.12.
Missouri State then placed five runners inside the top eight of the 100-meter dash, led by
Olivia Rogers in second with a personal-best 11.40.
Brianna Howard finished fourth in a personal-best 11.58,
Delaney Weimer was fifth in 11.72,
Shackera Douglas posted a personal-best 11.73 for sixth and
Rakiya Lang added a personal-best 11.86.
Alyssa Ball and
Sydney Ward also competed for the Bears.
The Bears continued their strong day in the 800-meter run, where
Ella Cronhardt set a facility record with a winning time of 2:10.70.
Mary Margaret Harris added a personal-best 2:12.11 to finish third,
Abby Meyer placed fourth in 2:14.92 and
Raegan Schnurbusch posted a personal-best 2:19.21.
Missouri State dominated the 400-meter hurdles, taking the top two spots.
BreAna Garrett won the event in 1:00.93, while Galbreath finished second with another personal best in 1:02.46.
Mirabella Redman added a fourth-place finish in 1:03.00.
In the 200-meter dash,
Claire Farrell led Missouri State with a runner-up finish and personal-best 24.15.
Jordyn Buckley followed in fourth with a personal-best 24.28, while Douglas ran 24.48 for eighth. Lang placed ninth in 24.49, Howard added a personal-best 24.50,
Barrett Jackson posted a personal-best 24.87 and
Seleena Morris added a personal-best 25.11. Ball and Ward each crossed in 24.95.
The Bears closed out the distance races by sweeping the top five spots in the 3,000-meter run.
Madilyn Moore won the event in 10:33.63, followed by
Emily Nuttall in second,
Adrien Martens in third,
Britta Foust in fourth and
Grace Buschling in fifth.
Missouri State capped the meet with another relay victory in the 4x400-meter relay, where the team of Farrington, Farrell, Foster and Garrett crossed first in 3:45.11. The Bears also placed third with
Jordyn Buckley,
Cheria Galbreath,
Abby Meyer and
Barrett Jackson, fourth with
Olivia Rogers,
Kayleigh Jenkins,
Delaney Weimer and
Sydney Ward, and sixth with Cronhardt, Brusselers, Hatley and Fotiades.
In the field events,
Shiloh Cross posted a personal-best 5.60 meters to finish second in the long jump, then added a win in the triple jump with a mark of 12.10 meters.
Mirabella Redman placed third in the long jump at 5.31 meters,
Barrett Jackson finished fourth at 5.26 meters and
Sadie McCulloh was fifth at 5.25 meters.
Kayleigh Jenkins and
Maggie Haase each cleared 1.60 meters in the high jump to finish fourth and fifth, respectively. In the javelin,
Brooklynn O'Cain led Missouri State with a fifth-place throw of 39.05 meters, while McCulloh placed eighth and
Bessie Swoboda posted a personal-best 33.55 meters to finish 10th.
Missouri State returns to action April 24 at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
