Meet Results
BOLIVAR, Mo. – Boosted by top finishes in the 100-meter dash, 3,000-meter run and high jump, the Missouri State track and field team earned a second-place team finish in its first scored meet of the outdoor season.
Calandra Henry, Edna Dar and DaeLin Switzer earned event wins at the SBU Bearcat Invitational here Saturday helping the Bears end the day with 101 total points in the 21-team field.
In the 100-meter dash, Henry shined, sprinting to a first-place finish with a time of 11.71 seconds, less than .01 off her lifetime best (11.62) in the event. Elsewhere on the track, Dar earned her own first-place finish, racing a lifetime best time of 10:01.22 to end the 3,000-meter race at the front of the pack. Switzer also earned an event title for her efforts, jumping to a height of 1.63 meters to win the high jump competition.
Other Bears found success in the team's second meet of the outdoor season as well, as Charity Obazughanmwen finished second in the 400-meter. Her time of 57.03 was over a second faster than her former top time in the event (58.89) also raced at the SBU Bearcat Invitational last season.
Manuela Ngo Tonye Nyemeck (sixth), Victory Ifah (eighth) and Whitney Farrington (10th) also finished in the top-10 in the event, with respective times of 58.72, 59.61 and 1:00.06.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Meghan Halstead raced to a third-place finish, clocking a time of 1:03.37.
On the distance side of things, Claudrice McKoy and Ashley Rolewicz raced to top-five finishes in the 800-meter run ending in fourth (2:17.68) and fifth (2:17.77) out of the 44-person field.
In the 5,000-meter run, Shelby Palmer and Margo Nea found success for the Bears, finishing with respective times of 18:13.25 and 18:17.71, good for sixth and seventh place. Natalie Clayton narrowly missed the top-10 in the event, finishing in 11th place with a time of 18:39.59.
The Bears found success in their field events as well, as Cheyenne White, Reagan Reedy and Rachel Lacey turned out impressive distances in the javelin throw. White's heave of 43.60 meters was just shy of her lifetime best (43.80m) while Reedy (43.03m) and Lacey's (40.43m) throws were lifetime bests. The trio earned finishes of fourth, fifth and eighth place, respectively.
Brooke Jenkins led MSU's long jump efforts finishing third with a distance of 5.70 meters. Also placing in the top-10 of the event was Lacey, finishing eighth with her second lifetime best of the day (5.45 meters).
Northwest Missouri State was the meet champion with 146 points while MSU (101 points) and Pittsburg State (95 points) rounded out the top three.
MSU resumes its season next weekend competing at the Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State University on Saturday.
