CEDAR FALLS, Iowa. – Sprinters Marissa Kurtimah
and Shani Adams
reached the podium on the final day of the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship to lead Missouri State to a sixth-place finish of nine league squads at the UNI Dome.
Adams collected a silver medal in the 400-meter dash after posting a time of 55.71 seconds.
Kurtimah added a silver medal to her collection in the 200-meter dash, finishing in a time of 24.42 seconds. The junior picked up a bronze medal in the 60-meter dash after crossing the finish line in a time of 7.42 seconds.
Junior Jessica Allen
posted a personal best time of 10:01.95 in the 3,000-meter run, finishing fourth for the Bears.
Bears' quartet of Kadisha Francois
, Shani Adams
, Marissa Kurtimah
and Maya Genard
worked together in the 4x400-meter relay to finish in a time of 3:51.37.
Junior Georgia Richardson
led the way for Missouri State in field events, breaking her school record in the pole vault with a height of 3.49 meters. She bested her height of 3.41 meters, set in the 2016 MVC Indoor Championship.
finished fourth for the Bears after leaping 12.16 meters to reset her personal best in the triple jump.
The Bears return to action on March 17 to open the 2017 outdoor season at the Bulldog Relays in Starkville, Miss.
Day 1 Recap
The Missouri State track and field team sits in sixth place out of nine squads after the first day of the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship. The final day of the league event, hosted by Northern Iowa at the UNI Dome, will start at 11:00 a.m. with triple jump while the 1-mile run finals will begin at 1:25 p.m.
"We had a pretty good day one of competition," track and field head coach Ronald Boyce
said. "We missed in some areas, but we also moved really well in places where that has not been the norm. I am expecting more good results tomorrow."
Junior Brittany McPike
threw a personal best 17.10 meters in the weight throw, finishing sixth and collecting three points for the Bears team total.
In the long jump, junior Daijha Heron
leapt 5.81 meters to post a season-best in the long jump, taking sixth and tallying three team points.
Bears' quartet of Savannah Beaver Aleckson
, Kadisha Francois
, Madeline Saville
and Grace Breiten
posted a time of 12:30.57 in the distance medley relay, finishing seventh and collecting two points for Missouri State.
In the 5,000-meter run, junior Jessica Allen
crossed the finish line with a time of 17:10.84, collecting a personal-best time with a fourth-place finish. Allen collected five points for the Bears' 13 total team points after the first day of action.
Senior Shani Adams
ran a time of 56.37 in the 400-meter dash prelims to advance to Sunday's finals.
Sprinter Marissa Kurtimah
advanced to the finals in two events, posting a time of 7.45 seconds in the 60-meter dash while tallying a time of 24.83 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
