PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Missouri State track and field team continued to post strong performances on the final day at the 2
nd Annual Gorilla Classic, hosted by Pitt State on Saturday (Feb. 11). The Bears tallied 11 more personal bests as the squad prepares for the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships in two weeks (Feb. 25-26).
Sprinter
Marissa Kurtimah won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.44 seconds. Kurtimah reset the top meet time in the event by 0.02 hundredths of a second, set last year by Wayland Baptist's by Rochene Smith.
Three Bears –
Jessica Allen,
Grace Breiten and
Savannah Beaver Aleckson – all placed in the top-10 in the 1-mile run. Allen finished fifth with a time of 5:12.13, besting her pervious personal best time of 5:18.95. Breiten posted a time of 5:16.25, good for seventh while Beaver Aleckson tallied a ninth-place time of 5:18.25.
In the 800-meter run,
Megan Nickles tallied a personal best time of 2:23.28, finishing seventh, while teammate
Madeline Saville finished 10
th with a time of 2:24.34.
Maya Genard,
Shani Adams, Kurtimah and
Erin Roebuck teamed up to post a time of 3:51.84 in the 4x400-meter relay.
Chicago Bains shaved off 0.23 from her qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles, to finish 12
th with a time of 8.82.
In the field,
Daijha Heron collected a fourth-place finish in the triple jump, posting a distance of 11.69 meters.
