PITTSBURG, Kan. –
Georgia Richardson matched her school record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.41 meters, good for a second-place finish on the first day of the 2
nd Annual Gorilla Classic, hosted by Pitt State (Feb. 10). Richardson broke the Missouri State indoor pole vault record at the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Fellow pole vaulter
Nikki Buck notched a personal best after clearing a height of 3.21 meters, finishing seventh.
"The ladies did a great job today," head track and field coach Ron Boyce said. "The personal bests are very important, but what is more important is that we continue to improve as our conference championship meet is only two weeks away."
Bears quartet –
Savannah Beaver Aleckson,
Erin Roebuck,
Shani Adams and
Grace Breiten – took fourth with a time of 12:11.80 in the distance medley relay, just 0.07 hundredths of a second out of third.
In the 60-meter dash,
Taryn Smiley and
Maya Genard both collected personal bests and advanced to tomorrow's finals. Smiley finished third with a time of 7.67 seconds while Genard came in 12
th after crossing the finish line in 7.83 seconds.
Three Bears –
Asha Cave, Genard and Smiley – again collected personal bests in the 200-meter dash. Cave took third with a time of 24.25, while Genard and Smiley finished 10
th and 15
th, respectively, finishing with times of 24.99 seconds and 25.30 seconds, respectively.
Hurdlers
Chicago Bains,
Kelli Bowen and
Olivia Ott, all advanced out of the qualifying heat 60-meter event and will compete in the Saturday prelims. Bains posted a time of 9.05 seconds to finish seventh, as Bowen took ninth with a time of 9.21 while Ott came in 12
th, crossing the finish line at 9.25 seconds.
In the field,
Sidne' Williamson posted a personal best leap with a distance of 5.32 meters in the long jump.
The Bears return to action for the final day of the Gorilla Classic on Saturday (Feb. 11) at 10:30 a.m. with the 3,000-meter run.
