DALLAS - Missouri State women's track and field student-athlete
Mary Margaret Harris has been named the recipient of Conference USA's Winter Spirit of Service Award, recognizing her commitment to community service, academic excellence and participation in her sport.
The Spirit of Service Award honors student-athletes who demonstrate significant community engagement, maintain good academic standing and actively participate in their sport. Harris represents Missouri State's winter-season selection and was recognized as part of the conference's annual award program.
A graduate student from Fayetteville, Ark., Harris has been active in a variety of service efforts throughout the community. Her outreach includes reading to children and assisting teachers at Roundtree Elementary, Sunshine Elementary and Marshfield High School, along with participating in street cleanups, Convoy of Hope and the SAAC Food Drive.
Harris has also excelled in the classroom. She owns a 3.13 undergraduate GPA and a 3.97 graduate GPA while pursuing a graduate certificate in speech pathology after completing her undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in child and family development. She was named a 2025 Maroon & White Scholar-Athlete and has earned a spot on the Missouri State Athletic Director's Honor Roll five times.
On the track and cross country course, Harris has continued to make an impact for the Bears with strong performances across multiple distance events. Her personal-best marks include 18:12.0 in the 5K and 21:06.5 in the 6K in cross country, a 4:55.31 mile and 11:59.52 distance medley relay indoors, and a 4:30.18 in the 1500 meters and 11:01.91 in the 3000-meter steeplechase outdoors. Among her highlighted accomplishments are a second-place finish in the distance medley relay during the 2024-25 season, a fourth-place finish in the steeplechase during the 2024-25 campaign and first-place finishes in the 1500 meters during the 2023-24 season.
