Whitney Peyton has started 113 games at second base for the Bears during her career, but will miss the 2007 season with an injury.
2006: Peyton started all 55 games she played, recording a .977 fielding percentage with 92 putouts and 116 assists. The 116 assists ranked third-best in the MVC behind teammates Michelle Armentrout and Alicia Jager. She also helped turn nine double plays from her second base position, which were seventh-most in the Valley. At the plate, Peyton scored 14 runs and picked up 19 hits, including three doubles, a triple, and 12 RBIs. The usual seventh-place hitter was 10 of 38 with runners in scoring position with 7 RBIs.
2005: Peyton started 47 games as a sophomore, committing just seven errors in 165 chances for a .958 fielding percentage. Peyton held a .138 batting average, stealing six bases in nine attempts and scoring 14 runs, to rank third on the Bears' squad.
2004: As a freshman, Peyton appeared in 27 games for the Bears, starting 11 contests. She put up some promising numbers in only 18 plate appearances, holding a .278 batting average with five hits, one double and one home run. Peyton also stole three bases and led the Bears with a .500 slugging percentage. In the field, Peyton assisted on 18 outs and registered 17 putouts. She posted an .875 fielding average.
Background: Peyton came to Missouri State after a standout career at Batesville (Ark.) High. Peyton helped lead the Lady Pioneers to three consecutive state semifinal finishes and was a three-time all-conference selection and two-time all-state selection. She was also a two-time Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year and led her team in batting average during her sophomore and junior seasons.
Personal: Whitney Leigh Peyton is the daughter of Cameron and Deborah Peyton. She was born September 11, 1985, in Batesville, Ark. She is majoring in criminology.
