Biography

At MSU: One of only two returners to have started every match last season, Andy Cooper brings a physical presence and 46 career starts to the backline. 2006: Cooper earned All-MVC Honorable Mention as he helped lead the Bears' defense to seven shutouts. A starter in all 19 matches, Cooper was a key cog in the backline that allowed an MVC regular season-low 15 goals in 18 matches. The Bears' defense allowed only two goals at home during the season. 2005: As a sophomore, the defender started all 14 matches in which he played for the Bears, picking up an assist and recording five shots. Cooper's defensive prowess helped the Bears' defense hold opponents to 15 regular season goals, second-fewest in the MVC, and record a stretch of five consecutive shutouts in September, setting a new school record. 2004: Cooper made an immediate impression for the Bears, starting 13 of the 16 games he appeared in as a freshman. The St. Louis, Mo., native earned all-freshman honorable mention accolades from the MVC while helping MSU post an impressive 1.12 goals-against average. He posted one shot on goal for his only offensive statistic. Background: Cooper was an all-conference and second team all-state selection his senior season, while being named Oakville's Defensive Player of the Year. He also helped lead Oakville to the district championship during his junior year and state finals his sophomore season. Personal: Andrew M. Cooper is the son of Richard and Joan Cooper. He was born September 13, 1985.
