Biography

At MSU: Renard McDaniel should have a good chance to work into significant playing time on the defensive line after playing in nine games and picking up 11 tackles a year ago. His best game was a three-tackle effort against Indiana State. He also picked up a pair of tackles each against UNI, Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri State.

Background: Renard McDaniel transferred to MSU after playing for Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College. McDaniel earned second team All-America honors and played in the Graphic Edge Bowl. In 2002, his senior year of high school, he earned all-conference, and all-area honors. McDaniel also was a track and field standout as he broke the John F. Kennedy High shot put record with a 55-foot throw.

Personal: He was born Renard Leshon McDaniel on August 23, 1983, in Wayne County, Michigan. His parents are Edward McDaniel and Shelia Welford. McDaniel is majoring in criminology.
