Biography

At MSU: After seeing considerable playing time a year ago, Franz von Haas looks to take on an even bigger role in the Bears' new offense. Used mostly in double tight end situations, he caught six balls for 127 yards and a TD. von Haas had two receptions for 47 yards against Indiana State and two for 44 against Southeast Missouri State. His TD was an 18-yarder vs. Illinois State. He played in all 11 games in 2004, primarily on special teams. He redshirted two years ago after transferring to MSU

Background: von Haas transferred to MSU after two years at Drake and one at Northern Colorado. He was in eight games at Drake, starting two. In high school, von Haas was a first team all-conference and all-city pick and a four-year varsity letterman and team defensive MVP as a senior. He had 110 tackles as a senior on a league title team and gained over 1,000 yards at running back as a junior.

Personal: His full name is Franz Friedrich von Haas. He was born September 11, 1984, in Fort Knox, Kentucky, the son of Bruno and Marie von Haas. Franz is majoring in business.
