2018: McAlister appeared in seven games, including five starts, for the Bears as a sophomore, fanning 20 hitters in 19.0 total innings ... Limited left-handed hitters to a .207 batting mark (6-for-29) on the season ... Worked 5.0 innings in his season debut vs. Texas Southern (Feb. 18), scattering three runs on six hits as part of a 6-5 MSU victory ... Struck out a career-best nine hitters in his next start, a no-decision against Oklahoma State (March 7) in which he allowed just one earned run (five runs overall) on four hits in 4.1 innings ... Also made home midweek starts against Oral Roberts (March 13) and Murray State (March 21), combining for six strikeouts over 6.1 innings  in those two outings — both no-decisions ... Logged relief appearances vs. Oregon State (April 13) and DBU (May 18), before earning the starting nod in the Bears’ MVC Championship title game at DBU (May 27) ... Struck out 17 hitters in 16.1 innings over five outings for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots of the Alaska Baseball League over the summer.

2017: Saw action in 10 games for the Bears as a freshman, finishing the year 0-1 with a 9.31 earned run average ... Turned in back-to-back scoreless innings vs. Rhode Island (Feb. 17) and at Arkansas State (March 1) to start his MSU career ... Worked a hitless frame March 24 at Central Michigan to help secure a 12-1 victory ... Made his first start as a Bear against Illinois State (May 28) at the MVC Championship, working a career-best 4.1 innings over which he allowed just one earned run with a personal-best five strikeouts ... Worked 1/3 of an inning against Arkansas in his NCAA Regional debut on June 4.

Background: Competed as a two-way prep standout for Waterloo (Ill.) High School, where he went 8-2 with an 0.60 ERA and hit .432 with five homers and 36 RBIs as a senior in garnering IHSBCA first-team all-state honors, as well as Rawlings Perfect Game All-Central Region Honorable Mention recognition ... Picked up All-Mississippi Valley Conference honors for the second consecutive year in 2016 ... Earned 2015 Underclass Honorable Mention All-America recognition from Perfect Game ... The right-hander recorded a 4-2 mound mark to go with a 2.50 ERA with 38 strikeouts over 34 innings, while batting .458 and slugging .807 with seven homers and 36 RBIs as a junior for the Bulldogs' conference and regional championship squad ... Rated as the No. 13 overall recruit in Illinois according to PBR, McAlister was an honorable mention choice for the Belleville News-Democrat Large-School (Class 3A-4A) All-Area team, then went 6-1 on the mound over the summer of 2015 for the Rawlings Tigers.
