2021 (Junior)
Made three starts before undergoing Tommy John surgery in March...Tossed four shutout innings in the season opener at Oral Roberts (Feb. 23), striking out five and getting the victory in his first appearance since 2018...Fanned seven batters in six innings against No. 18 Oklahoma State on March 2...Struck out 15 batters in 13.2 innings on the season with a 7.90 earned run average.

Established himself as a regular weekend starter as a true freshman, going 7-4 with a 4.81 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 76.2 innings of work ... Helped MSU lock up its second-consecutive Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title with league-best totals of  five victories and a .138 batting average against in MVC play ... Also posted a 3.24 ERA and 28 strikeouts—both good for sixth overall in the conference—during Valley play ... Named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American and second-team All-MVC choice ... Picked up his first collegiate win with 6.0 strong innings vs. Seton Hall (March 17), allowing just one run on five hits in a 14-2 decision ... The No. 6 overall prospect in the state of Missouri according to Prep Baseball Report, Buckner joined the Bears following a strong summer with the St. Louis Dodgers of the Metro Collegiate League, where he posted a 7-0 mound mark, a 1.35 earned run average and 64 strikeouts in just 40.0 innings ... The right-hander earned Suburban Central National Conference Player of the Year honors as a junior after going 3-2 with a 1.90 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 48 innings of work for Ladue (Mo.) Horton Watkins High School ... Logged a perfect 5-0 slate to go along with a 2.23 ERA to earn all-conference recognition as a sophomore ...
