Hammons Field became home to the Missouri State Bears baseball team in 2004. The facility was built by Missouri State alumnus John Q. Hammons.

Hammons Field was named the 2024 Professional Baseball Field of the Year by the Sports Field Management Association, an honor awarded to the best natural grass field among all 120 teams across all levels of affiliated Minor League Baseball.

The premier college ballpark has 8,000 seats, 28 luxury suites, five party decks, six food and beverage outlets, a souvenir shop and a club lounge. Hammons Field features offices for the coaching staff as well as separate dressing room and training facilities for the Bears.

In 2004, in the Bears' first year at Hammons Field, Missouri State averaged 3,759 fans per game. With 20 home games and 75,186 total fans attending Bears games, MSU ranked ninth in the NCAA in attendance average, and 26th in total attendance.

The Springfield Cardinals, St. Louis Cardinals AA affiliate, made Hammons Field home in 2005.

In 2015, Missouri State hosted and won an NCAA Regional for the first time in the school's Division I era, and crowds above 5,000 attended each of MSU's three games.
