2013: Burgess saved three games and logged three victories to go along with a 2.93 earned run average, recording scoreless appearances in 17 of his 21 outings out of the Bears[apos] bullpen as a sophomore...Picked up preseason All-MVC and NCBWA All-America recognition...Earned MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention...Posted three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in MSU[apos]s 3-2 season-opening victory over Texas State (Feb. 15) at the Bobcat Invitational...Won again the following weekend vs. Eastern Illinois (Feb. 24) and registered his first save of the season March 9 in a 7-5 victory over Northwestern...Closed out a 3-2 win over Western Illinois (March 15) for his 13th career save, then wrapped up a 5-2 decision over Bradley (April 19) to move into third place on MSU[apos]s career saves list as part of a three-game sweep of the Braves...Made six-straight scoreless appearances, March 9-30, before posting five additional shutout efforts, April 9-26...Went 2-1 with a 1.72 ERA in eight road outings...Named to the MVC Commissioner[apos]s Academic Honor Roll...Went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA over eight appearances in his second summer with Harwich of the Cape Cod League. 2012: Turned in one of the top freshman seasons in school history, setting the Bears[apos] rookie saves record (11) while going 5-2 with a 2.08 earned run average en route to picking up first-team All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association...Also named MVC Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-MVC after tying for second in the league and ranking 30th nationally in saves...Tied the Bears[apos] single-season record for appearances by a pitcher (26)...Became the first freshman pitcher in school history to record victories in each of his first three appearances, Feb. 18-25; won his first five decisions (Feb. 18-May 19)...Named to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List on April 19...Picked up the win in MSU[apos]s 10-8 victory over Tennessee Tech (Feb. 18), then earned his second victory of opening weekend two days later with three perfect innings in a 4-2 win over Texas Tech and earn a spot on the Red Raider Classic All-Tournament squad...Named Coors Missouri State Player of the Week (Feb. 20)...Earned the win in MSU[apos]s 9-4 win at UTA (Feb. 25), striking-out three over 2.0 IP...Notched his first save Feb. 29, at Oklahoma State, working 2.1 scoreless innings of a 7-1 victory...Also earned the save in MSU[apos]s 3-2 win at Northwestern State (March 3) to hand head coach Keith Guttin his 1,000th career victory...Matched his career-best strikeout total with three vs. SIU Edwardsville to earn his third save March 10...Picked up his fourth save March 16 at ORU, then closed out a 5-0 combined shutout with Nick Petree the following day...Finished off the Bears[apos] three-game sweep of Creighton (March 25) for his fifth save...Allowed his first runs as a Bear over a two-inning stint that closed out an 8-4 MSU win at Dallas Baptist (March 31)...Saved his sixth game of the season April 3 wtih a scoreless ninth in a 5-2 win over Arkansas State...Tied Grant Gordon[apos]s MSU freshman saves record with 1.1 IP of scoreless relief to close out a 3-0 win over Kansas State (April 11)...Claimed the top spot on the freshman saves list with a career-long 3.1 IP in a 10-4 win over Illinois State (April 14)...Earned his 11th save of the season May 11 in a 2-0 win over Evansville...Picked up a win over league champ Indiana State (May 18) with 3.0 innings pitched in a 7-5 victory...Earned the Harwich Mariners[apos] Unsung Hero Award after notching a team-high four saves to go along with a 2.16 ERA over 15 Cape Cod Baseball League appearances over the summer.

Background: Burgess was a highly-decorated pitching standout at Webb City High School, where he set a Missouri prep record with 11 career shutouts...Completed his career with a 31-8 record, 1.44 ERA, 362 strikeouts, three saves, 29 complete games, two no-hitters, 11 shutouts...Set Webb City career records with 45 appearances, 38 starts and 248 innings in addition to wins, complete games, shutouts and strikeouts...Owns single-season Webb City records with 14 starts, 13 wins, and 12 complete games, all done during a 13-1 junior campaign where he had a 0.75 ERA and 142 strikeouts in 93.2 innings...His 12 complete games that season also marked a state record, while an 18-strikeout game was a school record...Went 8-2 with a 1.53 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 73.1 innings as a senior, earning first-team all-state recognition on both the media and coaches teams...Was also all-conference and all-district as both a junior and senior, and an academic all-state pick as a junior when Webb City finished the year as the Missouri Class 4 state runner-up...As a sophomore, went 7-3 with a 1.92 ERA, 74 strikeouts and one save in 54.2 innings...Finished freshman season with a 3-2 record, 2.66 ERA and two saves for the Missouri Class 3 runners-up.
