AZUSA, Cali. – With an event title to her name, Calandra Henry led the Missouri State track and field on day three of the Bryan Clay Invitational, as the Bears wrapped up the California meet here Saturday evening.
Henry not only ended the 100-meter dash with a first-place medal but eclipsed her former lifetime best by two one-hundredths of a second, racing a time of 11.50 seconds in a field of 89 competitors. The senior sprinter also found success in the 200-meter, finishing eighth with a time of 23.69 seconds.
Charity Obazughanmwen also shined in the 200-meter, racing a personal best time of 24.56 down from her former mark of 24.89 seconds. She competed in the 400-meter as well, finishing in 62nd place with a time of 57.50.
In the 1,500-meter run, Edna Dar and Ashley Rolewicz were back in action for the Bears for their final day of competition. Competing in a deep field of 188 athletes, Dar raced a time of 4:33.57 to finish in 71st place. Rolewicz also turned out a competitive performance recording a time of 4:39.88, one second shy of her top time in the event.
Elsewhere on the track, Meghan Halstead put forth a strong showing in the 400-meter hurdles racing a lifetime best of 1:02.81.
DaeLin Switzer and Brooke Jenkins competed well in the jumps for MSU, as Switzer set a lifetime best in the high jump with a mark of 1.72m. In the long jump and triple jump, Jenkins turned out stellar performances, finishing 13th in the former with a leap of 5.78 meters. In the triple jump, Jenkins jumped to a lifetime best of 11.73 meters, beating her former mark of 11.63m accomplished during the 2022 season.
In the javelin throw, Cheyenne White finished the day in 13th place out of 42 competitors with a heave of 39.17 meters.
The Bears will be back in action next weekend when the team travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the John McDonnell Invitational beginning on Thursday, April 20.
