SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State track and field team will send 12 student-athletes to Texas to compete in the 2017 90
th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, presented by Spectrum, as well as the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State.
The Bears' first events at the Texas Relays will kick off with the 400-meter hurdles prelims at 4 p.m. on Thursday (March 30), while the javelin competition will go at 5 p.m. Friday (March 31) action will have 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and the 4x100 meter relay as part of the morning session while the Distance Medley Relay will go at 7:15 p.m. The 4x800 meter relay is set to start on Saturday (April 1) at 10:40 a.m., while the 4x200 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay will be a part of the afternoon session along with finals of the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and 4x100 meter relay.
At the Bobcat Invitational, the Bears will begin action on Thursday (March 30) with the discus at 1 p.m. Friday's action will kick off with the hammer throw at 2 p.m. while the 100-meter dash is set to start at 5:50 p.m.
Keeping Track of the Bears –
- Eleven of the twelve MSU student-athletes will compete at the Texas Relays, the most Missouri State has had qualify to participate in the prestigious event. Seven Bears will compete in individual events, but will come together to compete in five relays.
- In 2015, Missouri State had ten student-athletes compete at the Texas Relays, including current Bears Shani Adams, Holly Pattie-Belleli and Marissa Kurtimah. Adams placed third in her 400-meter hurdles heat with a time of 1:00.19, good for 15th overall in the event. Pattie-Belleli won her 100-meter hurdles heat with a time of 14.42, while Kurtimah posted a time of 12.04 in the 100-meter dash.
- Hurdlers Shani Adams and Chicago Bains will kick off track events for the Bears with the 400-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays on Thursday.
- Sprinters Asha Cave and Marissa Kurtimah will take to the track on Friday morning in the 100-meter dash, as Holly Pattie-Belleli and Bains will race in the 400-meter hurdles later in the same morning session. The 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays are both scheduled to also go in the Friday morning session.
- Senior Melanie Raterman is the lone field team competitor representing the Bears at the Texas Relays in the javelin throw on Thursday. Redshirt freshman Amanthi Silva will join Raterman in the discus competition at Texas State, as Raterman will also participate in the hammer throw in the Bobcat Invitational.
- Distance runners, Cindy Forde, Adams, Paityn Howat and Grace Breiten will go in the Distance Medley Relay on Friday (March 31) as part of the evening session.
- Director of track and field and cross country, Ronald Boyce, enters his 21st season at the helm in 2016-17. In his time at MSU, his indoor and outdoor track and field teams have claimed nine Missouri Valley Conference Championships and have been Valley runners-up six times.
