Dan Kickham Signs Professional Contract With Detroit

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State right-handed pitcher Dan Kickham, a 33rd round draft pick of the Detroit Tigers last week, has reached a contract agreement with the professional club.

Kickham was the 2011 Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year and a first-team all-MVC selection in his only season on campus after spending his first two years at Crowder College.

Kickham tied an MSU record with 13 saves this season, going 2-3 with a 1.84 ERA in 25 appearances. The junior held opponents to a .192 batting average, yielding 20 hits against 24 strikeouts in 29.1 innings. He did not allow an earned run until his 18th outing of the year.

The Springfield native and Glendale High graduate is at the Tigers’ training and development facility in Lakeland, Fla., and will learn of his first professional pitching stop in the near future.

Two other players associated with Missouri State baseball have yet to sign. Junior second baseman Kevin Medrano, a 14th round pick of St. Louis, remains in negotiations with the Cardinals, while incoming freshman Joey Hawkins (SS/2B, Whitby, Ontario, Canada, 42nd round, Kansas City) has also not signed as of 12:30 p.m. on June 13. Teams have until midnight on August 15 to reach contract agreements with drafted players. Players who do not sign and have college eligibility remaining can return to Missouri State.
