Bears Swimming & Diving Remains Home to Host Omaha

SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State swimming & diving will be in Springfield for the second straight week as it hosts the University of Nebraska at Omaha for a two-day meet at Hammons Student Center Pool. The first day will start at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 with the second day continuing the meet on Saturday, Nov. 2 starting at 10:00 a.m. Live results will be available on Meet Mobile.
Bears Splashes (Women)
- Missouri State women's swimming & diving is coming off a sweep over the Drury Panthers last week across two meets. The Bears won the first meet, 166-77, and the second meet, 161-88.
- Junior Lana Janson won her first career Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week award on Wednesday following her role in Bears wins in five different events, including three individual wins. Janson won the 100-yard freestyle in both meets, while also winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.00.
- Sophomore Maggie Arceneaux won her second career MVC Diver of the Week award after setting new personal bests in both the 1-meter dive (275.40) and the 3-meter dive (254.33). Arceneaux won three of the four diving events last week, with senior Courtney Stanbury winning the 3-meter dive with a personal best score of 262.58 on Saturday from Hammons Student Center Pool.
- Fifth-year Cabrini Johnson set the team record in the 200-yard breaststroke on Friday (2:12.40), breaking the previous record held by Lauren Pavel (2:12.43) at the 2017 MVC Championships.
- Sophomore Caitlyn Friebe, Johnson, fifth-year Samantha Roemer and sophomore Makenzie Kurre also broke the Hammons Student Center Pool Record in the 400-yard medley relay.
Bears Splashes (Men)
- Missouri State men's swimming & diving comes off a pair of losses in dual meets against Drury. The Panthers defeated the Bears, 144-99, on Friday and again, 156.5-86.5, on Saturday.
- Senior Reese Hodgins set the Hammons Student Center Pool record in the 200-yard freestyle (1:36.94) last Friday. The previous record was set by Missouri swimmer Grant Bochenski in 2021. Hodgins' record time is the fastest in the conference this season.
- Junior Storm Opdahl has the top MVC scores in both the 1-meter dive (324.28) and the 3-meter dive (349.95), the latter being a personal best.
- Freshman Gonzalo Ruiz enters the weekend with the top MVC time in the 200-yard backstroke (1:47.06) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:50.84). Junior Luigi Maciel da Silva holds the top MVC time in the 100-yard breaststroke (54.56) and the 200 breast (2:00.25). Junior Chris Bedsole holds the top MVC time in the 200-yard butterfly (1:49.82).
Series History vs. Omaha
- Missouri State women's swimming & diving is 1-0 all-time against Omaha in dual meets. The Bears defeated the Mavericks, 80-42, on Nov. 8, 2008.
- Missouri State men's swimming & diving will take on Omaha's men's team for the first time.
Scouting the Mavericks
- Omaha women's swimming & diving opened the season with a 192-75 win over Rockhurst on Oct. 4. It most recently defeated Augustana, 195-105, on Oct. 26.
- Payton Easley leads the Summit League this season with the best time in the 100-yard freestyle (50.91).
- Omaha owns the top three Summit League scores in the 1-meter dive. Ava Snyder (260.25), Bella Price (247.05) and Ava Johnson (245.90) pace the conference.
- Omaha men's swimming & diving also holds wins against the same opponents. The Mavericks defeated Rockhurst, 176-103, and Augustana, 196-98.
- Stefan Varga holds the top Summit League time this season in the 100-yard backstroke (49.62).
- The men's team owns the fastest Summit League time this season in the 200-yard medley relay (1:31.10).
- Owen Kipp holds the top Summit League score this season in the 1-meter dive (3:10.80).
Head Coach Dave Collins
- Missouri State swimming & diving head coach Dave Collins enters his 14th season and will look for his 13th women's conference championship and fourth men's league title. He has been named MVC Swimming Coach of the Year eight times, including each of the last five years. He was also a five-time MAC Swimming Coach of the Year.
