ST. LOUIS - Missouri State women's swimming & diving took two Missouri Valley Conference weekly awards following its weekend sweep of the Drury Panthers. Junior
Lana Janson won MVC Women's Swimmer of the Week and sophomore
Maggie Arceneaux was named MVC Women's Diver of the Week, the league
announced Wednesday morning.
The two awards mark the first weekly honors for the women's team this season. The men's team won Swimmer and Freshman of the Week on
Oct. 9 following its season-opening meet at Southern Illinois.
Janson (Cape Town, South Africa) played a role in five event wins for Missouri State out of her six races over the weekend against Drury, including three individual wins. Janson won the 100-yard freestyle on both days against the Panthers with a 50.85 time on Friday and a 50.52 time on Saturday. She also won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.00) on Saturday. Janson capped off the weekend with wins in both the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.09) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:23.02), the latter being a Valley-best.Â
The award is Janson's first career weekly MVC honor.
Arceneaux (Wildwood, Mo.) won three of the four diving events she competed in over the weekend, earning personal bests each time. On Friday against Drury from Breech Pool, Arceneaux won both the 1-meter (251.02) and 3-meter dives (249.52). She reset her personal bests against Saturday from Hammons Student Center Pool by putting up a 275.40 in the 1-meter and a 254.33 in the 3-meter dive.
The award marks Arceneaux's second career MVC Diver of the Week nod. She won her first last season on
Jan. 24, which was also after the women's team swept Drury.
Missouri State swimming & diving will be home for a second straight week as it hosts Omaha for a two-day meet starting on Friday, Nov. 1 at 4:00 p.m. The second day commences on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10:00 a.m. from Hammons Student Center Pool.
