SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State track and field team will continue its indoor season this weekend at the Jayhawk Classic on Friday, Jan. 28, in Lawrence, Kan.
MSU will be one of nine teams competing in the meet with the day's events beginning at 11:45 a.m.
The Bears will look to build on the success they started last week when they opened their season at Kansas State, claiming five individual event titles at the Deloss Dodds Invitational.
"Last week was a good re-introduction to competition and meet atmosphere," said head coach Jordan Fife. "We had a great week of practice this week so we're looking forward to some improved marks on Friday."
Madison Meredith led the way for MSU in the sprints last weekend, earning first place finishes in both the 60-meter and the 200-meter with times of 7.40 and 25.50, respectively. Edna Dar began her indoor campaign strong on the distance side of things, racing a mile time of 5:07.01, good for a third-place finish. In the 1,000-meter run, Dar continued her days' strong performance, claiming the event title while setting a new Missouri State school record time of 2:55.02. Fellow distance runner Shelby Palmer, also raced to an event title for the Bears, recording a 3,000-meter time of 10:39.99.Â
The Bears also kicked off the season strong in field events with freshman DaeLin Switzer finding success in her first collegiate meet, jumping to a first-place finish in the high jump (1.68 meters). Three Bears also earned top finishes in the long jump, with Brooke Jenkins, Tamia Rayford and Nakaja Weaver coming in second through fourth, with jumps of 5.46 meters, 5.29 meters and 5.17 meters, respectively.
Friday's morning session will kick off with the women's 3,000-meter run. The first field event will begin at noon. Â
