Keeping Track of the Bears
  • Missouri State continues its outdoor campaign with the 13th Annual Gorilla Classic, hosted by Pittsburg State.  This will be MSU's first time competing in the outdoor version of the Gorilla Classic while the indoor event has been a mainstay to the Bears' indoor schedule.
  • The Bears will send 31 competitors to the PSU meet, including five distance runners who will be making their outdoor debut.
  • Last time out, MSU captured four event titles en route to a third-place team finish at the Joey Haines Invitational on April 3 in the season-opening meet.  Madison Meredith made a gold sweep of both sprint races (100m, 200m) while Jessica Haney took first in the high jump and Shelby Palmer was the top-finisher in the 5,000-meter run.  The Bears earned an overall total of 17 top-five event finishes.
  • Missouri State boasts 22 top-10 times/marks on the Missouri Valley Conference performance list, including a second-best 4x100-meter relay time (45.97) and a 4x400-meter relay (4:00.15) that ranks seventh.  Meredith holds the top spot in the 100m (11.48) while her 24.44 time in the 200m is second.  Calandra Henry (11.91) makes it a top-three showing for the Bears in the 100m.  In the field events, Jamilah James owns the league's best mark in the triple jump (12.30m) while fellow horizontal jumpers Talia Emerson and Brooke Jenkins are tied for second among Valley long jumpers after their matching 5.91-meter marks from the Southeast Missouri meet.  Haney's winning clearance of 1.70 meters in the high jump at SEMO sits in third.  Rochelle Etienne (42.12m) and Cheyenne White (41.11) make for a Bears back-to-back in the javelin with the throwers ranking second and third, respectively.
  • On a regional scale, Meredith's 100m time ranks 16th among NCAA Division I West runners and the 4x100-meter relay team of Henry, Meredith, A'Mira Askew and Nakaja Weaver ranks 25th with their 45.97 time.
  • Jordan Fife is in his third year as head coach and seventh overall with the program after a four-year stint as an assistant.  Fife has also handled head coaching duties of the cross country team since 2014.
