CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Missouri State got wins in the high jump, 5,000-meter run, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash to highlight a third-place team finish here Saturday at the Joey Haines Invitational.

In MSU's outdoor season debut, Madison Meredith turned in impressive winning performances in both the 100- and 200-meter (24.44) dashes. The transfer from Western Michigan, was just shy of the meet record (11.42) and was just off a Missouri State all-time top-five time with her winning time of 11.48.

Just behind Meredith in both sprints was sophomore Calandra Henry who was second in the 200 (24.78) and third in the 100 (11.91) to score big points for the Bears.

Sophomore Jessica Haney started Missouri State's winning performances by capturing the high jump title with an effort of 1.70 meters on her sixth attempt of the morning.

Later, the Bears went 1-2 in the 5,000-meter run with sophomore Shelby Palmer (18:26.70) and senior Grace Breiten (18:40.33) pacing the field of distance specialists.

"It was a great opener for the whole team," said Missouri State head coach Jordan Fife. "The weather was great, the competition was great, and we took advantage of it. We've been working really hard the last few weeks, so to see such great marks was inspiring. We're pretty happy to finish third (as a team) and feel like we were in the mix the whole day."

Missouri State also got solid performances from its 4x100-meter relay teams that finished second (45.97) and fourth (49.95), respectively. Meredith, Henry, Nakaja Weaver and A'Mira Askew guided MSU's top effort in the 4x100.

Sophomore Talia Emerson was the Bears' top hurdler on the day, registering a time of 14.66 to finish third in the 100-meter event. MSU also got fourth-place showings from Sierra Williams in the 1500 (4:36.92), Jamilah James (12.30) in the triple jump, and Rochelle Etienne (42.12) in the javelin.

In all, the Bears collected 17 top-five event finishes and 29 top tens.
