LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Missouri State track and field team collected 150 points to finish third at the Rock Chalk Classic, hosted by the University of Kansas on Friday (April 28). The Bears tallied three first place finishes and 16 top-five finishes in fourteen different events.
Senior
Holly Pattie-Belleli picked up a gold metal in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.76 and tallied a distance of 5.52 meters in the long jump, good for third place.
Sprinter
Marissa Kurtimah reached the top of the podium after she posted a time of 11.71 in the 100-meter dash.
Asha Cave collected third with a time of 11.87 while
Taryn Smiley crossed the finish line at 11.90 seconds.
Bears' quartet of Smiley, Kurtimah, Cave and
Maya Genard came together to post a time 45.89 in the 4 x 100-meter relay, picking up a silver medal.
In the 5,000-meter run,
Jessica Allen took second after posting a time of 17:16.41.
Senior
Melanie Raterman topped all competitors in the hammer throw with a distance of 51.85 meters. She also collected a silver medal in the javelin after tallying a distance of 40.84 meters.
Missouri State will now set their sights on preparing for the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship set for May 11-13 in Wichita, Kan.
