MSU Track & Field Impresses at Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Missouri State track and field sets ten PRs in the Fred Wilt Invitational on Saturday, the final meet before the Missouri Valley Conference championships.

In the final women's event of the day, Missouri State blew away the competition in the 1600m relay. The relay team of Shani Adams, Oarabile Babolayi, Althia Maximilien, and Rosalie Pringle ran a 3:42.86, more than six seconds faster than the second place team, Lindley's (Mo.) 3:49.29. Hosts Purdue (3:52.27) and Missouri Valley Conference opponent Southern Illinois (3:57.57) finished third and fourth in the event, respectively.

The 3:42.86 that the Bears posted in the 4x400 is the fastest in the Valley this indoor season and tops the previous MVC best that Missouri State set on Jan. 23 at the UAB Vulcan Invite.

Robiann Broomfield continued her dominance in the jumps. The junior won the long jump with a distance of 5.78m and was runner-up in the triple jump with her 12.31m. Daijha Heron added a pair of top-5 finishes in her jumps as well. Heron placed fourth in the triple jump (11.95m) and fifth in the long jump (5.48m).

MSU continued its trend of setting personal records at meets, with three alone in the 60m hurdles. Babolayi placed third with a career-best 8.70, Holly Pattie-Belleli finished in fifth with a PR 8.74, and Cassandra Schwab broke her MSU-best time with a 9.62. Haley Scott and Schwab both placed 14th with their 9.62 finishes.

In the 400m Run, Adams ran 56.61 for a PR and fourth-place finish. Twelve-hundredths of a second behind Adams was teammate Maximilien with her fifth place finish in 56.63. Rachel Campbell rounded out the event for the Bears with a career-best 1:01.51 and 26th finish.

Three Bears finished in the top eight of the 800m with Pringle earning second with a PR 2:13.52. Cindy Forde and Tenaly Smith finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth.

The 200-meter dash featured nine from Missouri State student-athletes. Althia Maximilien (25.22) placed fifth, Oarabile Babolayi (25.50) finished eighth, and Holly Pattie-Belleli (25.55) set a PR and finished 10th.

Jessica Allen continued her successful freshman campaign with an 11-second jump in her career-best with a 10:24.85 in the 3000m. In the Mile Run, Savannah Beaver set a career-mark with 5:14.36 and 13th-place finish. Oliviah Sloan (5:25.26) and Megan Nickles (5:26.64) crossed the finish line back-to-back in 17th and 18th.

Melanie Raterman was the lone Bear to compete on Friday night. Raterman set a personal-best in the weight throw with her 16.19m to finish 13th.

Missouri State is off this upcoming week before competing in the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in held in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The MVC meet will begin on Feb. 28.
