Maximilien Sets MVC Season-Best Time at Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Four Missouri State runners set or tied personal best times during day one of the Tyson Invitational here on Friday (Feb. 8) at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Missouri State's student-athletes competed against some of the best in the country, as the meet features 11 nationally ranked teams.

Sophomore sprinter Althia Maximilien smashed her previous best time in the 400-meter dash invitational by clocking in at 54.11 seconds, which currently ranks as the best time in that event among Missouri Valley Conference sprinters.

In the 60-meter dash, freshman Shavonne Husbands continued to cement her place as one of Missouri State's most impressive rookies. The native of St. Philip, Barbados crossed the finish line of the 60-meter prelims in 7.72 seconds, which matched her previous best time from Jan. 18, 2013.

Meanwhile, junior Pernell Joseph qualified for the semifinal round of the 60 meters and equaled her personal best time of 7.51 seconds.

Senior distance runner Emily Beaver finished the 800-meter run in 2:17.65. That time smashed her previous best (2:19.95) by more than two seconds and would rank as the 14th-best time in the MVC this season.

The Bears will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 9) for day two of the Tyson Invitational. The events are scheduled to get started at noon CST.
