Kevin Medrano is a first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference choice and juniors
Aaron Conway and
Aaron Meade earned honorable mention accolades as voted on by the league’s coaches and announced Monday at the State Farm MVC Tournament banquet in Wichita, Kan.
Medrano makes his second consecutive appearance on the first team, this season as a utility player. He ranks second in the MVC in average (.409) and hits (81), sitting behind only first-team second baseman Kevin Tokarski of Illinois State in batting average. A native of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Medrano has 27 RBIs, 21 extra-base hits, 29 walks and 15 steals this season. His 29-game hitting streak from March 23-May 14 ranked second in school history and ninth in MVC history.
Conway has started all 52 games in center field for the Bears and is hitting .286 with team-highs of seven homers and 23 stolen bases, a number that ranks sixth in school history for a single season. A native of Edwardsville, Ill., Conway hit .310 in Valley games with a .394 on-base percentage. Only two players in the league can match his perfect fielding percentage with more chances.
A first-team all-MVC pick a year ago, Meade went 2-1 in six MVC starts and ranks fifth in the conference in ERA (3.73), seventh in opponent average (.254) and eighth with 68 strikeouts over 72.1 innings. The southpaw from Kansas City currently sits third in MSU history with 40 starts, eighth with 222 strikeouts and 10th with 221.1 innings.
The Bears (20-32, 6-15) open MVC Tournament play Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against top-seeded Wichita State (38-18, 15-6).
