The Missouri State track and field team finished their competition at the Drake Relays today. The Bears ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Drake Relays, one of the most prestigious track meets in the country.
Sophomore Terry Phillips broke her own record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by finishing at 10:19.45, nearly eight seconds faster than her previous best. Her time was another NCAA Regional mark and placed her second in the event. She also owns the fastest time in the conference this season for the steeplechase.
Senior Jamie Vest also competed in the steeplechase, finishing fourth. Her time of 10:36.63 is her second NCAA Regional mark of the season in the event. She owns the second-fastest time in the conference behind Phillips.
The Bears sent their sprint group to the SIU-Edwardsville Twilight Open in Edwardsville, Ill. Rashida Allen won the 200-meter dash to lead Missouri State to a sweep of the top-three spots in the event. She set a personal best in the win with a time of 24.14 seconds. Leander Ernest placed second with a time of 24.50 seconds. Shantel Llewellyn took third with a dash of 24.51 seconds, a personal best. Yaneika Malcolm placed tenth, giving the Bears four of the top 10 finishes.
The Bears 4x100-meter relay team took second place with a time of 46.76 seconds. The relay team was made up of Shantel Llewellyn, Rashida Allen, Yaneika Malcolm and Leander Ernest. It was the fastest finish of the season for the Bears 4x100 relay.
Missouri State grabbed two more top-10 finishes in the 400-meter dash. Cortene Boulard placed third with a run of 57.57 seconds. Renna Berry came in seventh with a time of 59.11 seconds.
Kindra Perkins gave the Bears eight top-10 finishes at the SIU-Edwardsville Twilight Open. She ran the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.22 and finished in 10th place.
Anda Udris ran the 100-meter dash in 13.42 seconds as the lone Bear in the event.
On Friday evening, Lacie Sparlin and Andrea Marshall travelled to Joplin, Mo., for the Williams/Laptad Invitational and both set personal bests. Sparlin won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:54.91. Marshall ran the 1,500-meter run in 5:04.77, placing fifth.
The Missouri State will head to Fayetteville, Ark., next Friday to compete in the Arkansas Twilight. Events at John McDonnell Field begin at 10:00 a.m.
