Detwiler named preseason All-American

Missouri State junior pitcher Ross Detwiler has been tabbed as a preseason Second-Team All-American by Baseball America, it was announced Friday.

The southpaw was an honorable mention all-MVC pick in 2006 after finishing 7-4 with a 2.81 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 14 starts as a sophomore. He came on strong at the end of the season, going 4-1 with a 0.93 ERA in his last five starts, including a complete-game one-hitter against Creighton in the MVC Tournament.

Detwiler earned a spot on the Team USA squad that won a world championship last summer and gave up just two earned runs in 19 innings of work.

Baseball America annually polls scouting directors to vote on the team and make their selections based on performance, talent and major league potential. Of the 13 draft-eligible pitchers selected on BA’s three preseason teams last year, nine became first-round picks last June.
