Biography

2012: Shannahan was nearly perfect in his first season as a Bear, posting a 1.08 earned run average, despite missing 10 weeks due to injury...Recorded seven consecutive scoreless relief outings to begin his Missouri State career before giving up a single run in his final appearance of the season...Worked a one-two-three inning, Feb. 26, vs. Houston Baptist, striking out two batters...Fanned three over his 1.2-inning outing March 10, against SIU Edwardsville in game one of a doubleheader; came back to toss 2/3 of an inning in the nightcap to help preserve a 10-7 Bears[apos] victory...Picked up his first save as a Bear March 18, working the final 2/3 of an inning in MSU[apos]s 3-2 win over ORU...Worked 2.0 scoreless innings March 20 at SEMO, striking out three and allowing a pair of hits in an 8-1 MSU win...Returned to action June 2 with a scoreless inning in MSU[apos]s 12-2 victory over host Miami at the NCAA Coral Gables Regional...Permitted his only run of the season the following day against eventual College World Series participant Stony Brook in the Bears[apos] season-ending 10-7 setback...Turned in a strong summer performance for the Southern Ohio Copperheads of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, going 1-0 with four saves and a 1.80 ERA.

Background: Joined the Bears after completing his sophomore campaign at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill...Went 8-2 with a 3.24 ERA and one save in 13 appearances as a freshman in 2010...Gave up just 55 hits in 66 2/3 innings of work, fanning 41 batters...Appeared in eight games (including three starts) for the Volunteers in 2011, posting a 1-2 record...As a prep standout at Collinsville (Ill.) High, Shannahan went 6-1 with a 1.30 ERA in 70 innings as a junior, allowing just 45 hits while striking out 101...Also batted .391, with six doubles and 16 RBIs to help lead the Kahoks to a super sectional berth in the Illinois state tournament...Was a First-Team All-SWC selection and was named to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro team...Excelled in golf for the Kahoks as well, earning All-Southwestern Conference honors all four years and all-area recognition three times...Picked up an honorable mention all-conference citation in basketball as well...Originally signed with Arkansas out of high school.
